The Original (1994)
Craig Johnston's invention was initially rejected by Adidas before being accepted and rushed to production for the 1994 World Cup. The rubber fins (or "elements") on the upper were designed to impart spin on the ball — a concept that seems obvious now but was revolutionary at the time.
The Beckham Era
David Beckham's relationship with the Predator elevated the boot to cultural icon status. His gold Predator Precision (2000), worn while scoring free kicks with seemingly supernatural accuracy, is one of the most recognizable boots ever made. Beckham's Predators became synonymous with precision and style.
The Modern Predator
Today's Predator retains the spirit of the original while embracing modern materials. The rubber fins have been replaced by Demonskin rubber texturing, and the boot is now made from lightweight Primeknit rather than leather. Purists may prefer the originals, but there's no denying that the Predator lineage continues to innovate.
